What is Tawheed?
Tawhid (oneness) is the belief that there is only one God.
It means believing that there is no god but Allah. By “one” it does not mean in counting, but that He is unique and no one is like Him. He does not have a father or mother, a partner, or children.
It is the most fundamental belief of the Usool-e-Deen. It is also the first part of our ‘kalimah’: Lā ilāha il-lal lāh ‘There is no god but Allāh.’ Kalimah is a reminder for muslims about Allah and Prophet Muhammad pbuh and non-muslims need to recite kalimah to become a muslim
Tawheed in the Holy Quran
There is a Surah in the Holy Quran named Surah ‘Al-Ikhlaas’ or Surah ‘Tawheed’ which teaches us of this belief:
بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّـهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿١﴾ اللَّـهُ الصَّمَدُ ﴿٢﴾ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ﴿٣﴾ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ ﴿٤﴾
“Say, ‘He is Allah, the One. Allah is the All-embracing. He neither begets, nor was begotten, nor has He any equal (112:1-4).’”
Why is Tawheed important?
Tawheed makes us realise that everything is from Allah. for example the Doctor helps us in getter better but its Allah who gives health
Tawheed is our belief that the source of all attributes of Allah is Allah himself. So Allah is Mercy (Rahman), Power (Qadir) All-Knowing (Alim). Some attributes are reserved for Allah like Creator (Khaliq) others he grants to people like Healer (Shafi)
Tawheed lets us feel that everything and action is dependent on Allah as he is the creator of everything, even the free will we have is given to us by Allah. If we misuse it, we are answerable. e.g suicide
