What is Nubuwwah?
Nubuwwah (prophet hood) is the belief that Allah has sent Prophets (Nabi, plural Anbiya) to guide us on how Allah swt wants us to be by living amongst us
Allah has sent 124,000 Prophets to mankind (as mentioned in the Quran). The first prophet was Prophet Adam (AS), and the last and final prophet is Prophet Muhammad (SAWW).
Nubuwwah in the Holy Quran
A verse that mentions Nubuwwah and its purpose is:
وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّـهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ
“Certainly We raised an apostle in every nation [to preach]: ‘Worship Allah, and shun fake deities (16:36).”
The Four Heavenly Books given to the Prophets
The four heavenly books which have been revealed are:
- Tawrat (Torah) to Prophet Musa (AS)
- Zabur (Psalms) to Prophet Dawud (AS)
- Injil (Bible) to Prophet ‘Isa (AS)
- Holy Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (SAWW)
